CORE GROUP 7: CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION

Sustainable Development Goal 6 is about "clean water and sanitation for all". It is one of 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, the official wording is: "Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all."

​

One in three people live without sanitation. This is causing unnecessary disease and death.   Although huge strides have been made with access to clean drinking water, lack of sanitation is undermining these advances. If we provide affordable equipment and education in hygiene practices, we can stop this senseless suffering and loss of life.

UPSIGN's Focus on Clean Water and Sanitation

  • Achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all.

  • Improve UK-SouthAsia cooperation and capacity-building support to in water- and sanitation-related activities and programmes, including water harvesting, desalination, water efficiency, wastewater treatment, recycling and reuse technologies.

  • support integrated water resources management at all levels, including through transboundary cooperation as appropriate.

  • Increase water-use efficiency across all sectors

  • support equitable sanitation and hygiene for all, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations.
